WHAT WE FEED OUR COCKERS AND WHY--INNOVA
We feed all of our cockers Innova brand dog food. Innova is a high-premium, totally organic, human grade dog food. You could eat it, your children could eat it, and we have tested that fact! When you think about it, why do people feed their dogs things that aren’t fit for human consumption? Think about this for a minute: if it isn’t safe for us, why is it safe for dogs, especially small dogs who are going to be more easily effected simply for lack of body mass? Well the simple fact of the matter is that very few people actually realize that most of the dog foods on the market, even the so-called “vet recommended” ones, contain ingredients that have been rejected by the FDA and are not fit for human consumption. These dog foods may contain, in any given bag, corn or wheat rejected by the FDA for containing toxic levels of pesticides, road kill, parts of diseased animals, and the list only gets more grotesque. How is this possible, you might ask? Because America does not yet have an official standard for pet food, and thus it has no agency to regulate the ingredients. Canada does. Most European countries do. But we don’t, not yet. For this reason, it is as important to read the labels on a bag of dog food as it is to read the labels on your children’s cereal box! Many researches have even suggested that pesticides in dog food are the main reason for the increase of many canine health problems. Canine cancer has increased dramatically just in the last two decades! But this makes sense if dogs continue to eat daily poison!
No, I am not affiliated with the Innova dog food company in any way ! (Though you’d think they would at least send me some coupons!) But I am committed to my dogs’ health and to the health of all of my puppies, and Innova has a whole lot to do with maintaining that health. Though it certainly does cost more than, say, Science Diet, it is worth the money we save in vet bills. The proof is in the pups!
I urge all prospective adoptive families to spend some time researching dog food on the internet. It is fast and easy, and you won’t believe how much you will learn. Though I prefer Innova, there are also other good dog foods out there that you may learn about. Some of those other good foods include: Canidae, California Natural, Newman’s Own Dog Food, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul. All of these are organic, and all of them certify that their ingredients are human grade. None of them uses corn fillers, or meat by-products.
Cockers should never ever be kept on food containing corn. Corn is used as a filler. It adds empty calories and saves dog food companies money. But it is also a leading cause of skin allergies in dogs. My dogs have never developed any allergies, but I have never given them the opportunity to do so. You will be very surprised how many dog foods are filled up with mostly corn. Look on the labels.
